Nas Changes “Nigger” to… “Nas?”

May 20, 2008 by lik dot

First, nobody had a problem with this:

or this:

But yea, that’s the word on the streets according to Entertainment Weekly.

A representative for Def Jam has confirmed to EW.com that hip-hop artist Nas has made an eleventh-hour decision to change the title of his new album from N—– to simply Nas.

Then later in the day, word came from Nas:

In a statement, Nas clarified that he considers his new album untitled, adding: “It’s important to me that this album gets to the fans. It’s been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that, creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It’s that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it.”

July 1. Fuck y’all, I’m coppin. Downloading Terminate on Sight (off iTunes?).

Rick Ross- Here I Am/ Maybach Music

May 20, 2008 by lik dot

Here I Am wouldn’t have been my choice for the next single (Shinin for me), but I guess Nelly needs all the burn he can get.  (Whatcha name is didn’t exactly blow did it?)

No Jay verse in the short version of Maybach Music, which ends with a “to be continued.”  Maybe a Jay verse followed by “Luxury Tax?”  Just my suggestion.

NBA Playoffs: Gone Fishin 2008

May 20, 2008 by lik dot

Every night after the playoffs go off on TNT, I have to stay up and watch Ernie, Charles, and Kenny act a fool on Inside the NBA. Trust me, if you live on the East Coast, the hour spent watching these fools til 2 AM is worth the grogginess in the morning.

Around 2005, after a team got eliminated from the playoffs, Kenny would say that that team had “gone fishin” for the summer. They used to throw away the media guide, but then someone on their staff would doctor these hilarious photos of people fishin and superimpose the different players on their faces.

So we’re down to the final 4: the Lakers, Spurs, Pistons, and Celts. The other 26 teams have all gone fishin until next season.  Here are a few fishin photos.  The rest are here.

AI, Melo, Kenny, and Coach George Karl

Deshawn Stevenson, Agent Zero, Kenny, Soulja Boy, and GW

Snaq, Charles (in the water), Mike D’Antoni (now fishin in NY), Boris Diaw, Kenny, Steve Nash, and Amare

Joe Johnson, TI, Kenny, Josh Smith (peep his tee), and Al Horford

I’m sure Bron and CP3 are soon to follow.

Sneakerboxx One-Year Anniversary

May 19, 2008 by lik dot

Who knew I could keep my attention on something for a year? I’ve tried in the past to do blogs, but they never lasted past a month or two. It looked that way with this one (I actually didn’t start blogging until late June), and there were a few times in the early months where I was getting 14 views a day when I thought about quitting, but here I am a year later still going strong (somewhat).

A lot of things have changed for me in the year since I started the Sneakerboxx. I passed the VA bar exam, became an NFL agent, and opened my law practice all in the past year. And I realized just how hard it can be to run a blog.

As you can tell, since life has gotten busier for me, I have slowed down in the amount of daily posts. Part of this is attributed to my busy schedule and partly due to other sites doing it so well. I’ve mentioned them several times, and you can see that sometimes I jack their links (while giving proper credit).

So a lot of the stuff I post is sneakers (cause I still got you guys on that one) and opinion pieces. Like when I smashed the NCAA tournament this year or gave you my picks on the NBA postseason honors.

Anyway, expect more of that…I’m really fading on the posting shit. There just isn’t enough time in the day, and I don’t feel like posting the same shit that you can see on other blogs. The whole point of the sneakerboxx was to be unique…now I feel like I’m just another fish in a big pond.

Shouts to the people that been down since day 1…we’ll see if I can make it another year.

Cheers,

MTV Previews Nas’ “Nigger”

May 15, 2008 by lik dot

We have a release date folks!!! From December to February to April to now July 1.

He’s abrasively frank throughout the album, with his song names and content. He holds back nothing. On the title track, he calls out racists, as well as holds a mirror up to people who actually perpetuate the stereotypes bigots spread.

“N-I-double-G-E-R/ We are much more, but we choose to ignore the obvious,” he raps on the song. “You are the slave and the master/ What you looking for? You’re the question and the answer.”

From reading the article, it sounds as if the album isn’t finished, as their is talk of adding Rick Ross (???), the LOX, and dead prez. I’ll believe July 1 when I see a single and video drop, although he is making the rounds with DJs.

J. Period, Skillz, Don Cannon- Design of a Decade Vol. 1 (The 90s)

May 14, 2008 by lik dot

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been rockin with Skillz since 1994.  That’s right.  Almost 14 years.  Back when he was mad.  Who remembers the Nod Factor?

Anyway, for those of you that only know him for his annual rap-up of each year, get familiar.  Dude has been around for a while, so when he rhymes over these classic 90s beats, know that he is from that era, when hiphop was golden.  It’s a shame that he came around the same time as Jay, Big, Nas, Mobb Deep and others, because he simply got overlooked.  Anyway, I’m digging this mixtape and can’t wait for Vol. 2.

Download it from his blog here.
